300-year-old ritual of cooking Nazri in Iran village

300-year-old ritual of cooking Nazri food decorated with beautiful sidelines for mourners of Imam Hussein (AS) is held in an Iranian village during mourning ceremonies in Muharram.

This tradition is a way for the residents of Arazi village to show their respect for the third Shia Imam and express their grief for his martyrdom.

The food is served to the mourners during the ceremonies for Tasua occasion which marks the day before the Imam and his faithful followers were martyred in the Battle of Karbala.  

The Nazri food is a form of free religious reception for mourners of Imam Hussein (AS). The special food is distributed among all mourners.

The food is usually a simple one, consisting of rice, vegetables, and meat. However, it serves as a reminder for all of us to be hospitable to all people and aid those in need, as part of the values the Imam taught his followers.

Every year, on the 10th of Muharram, millions of Muslims around the world commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) by participating in processions and holding mourning ceremonies.
